200TW tires make more noise as you approach the grip limit and are more forgiving to catch an oversteer/understeer situation than slicks that are more on/off.

The crashes would be avoided by people who don't know what they are doing driving well past their abilities. Some of these people don't even have proper position on the steering wheel with their hands, or distance to the steering wheel, etc.

Most of the people you see smashing up their cars likely don't even understand what the traction circle is or slip angles are in regards to grip level.
Make no mistake with slicks you'd have faster lap times easy and more control with the suspension firmed up and naturally with someone with an iota of knowing what they are doing.
A lot of those bods that went off the track appeared to have traction switched off, big mistake.
