Thank you both, very interesting. I have just been over to the dealership and they think my competition model car has been loaded with the standard M5 software!
I drove over there and made them compare my car with another competition model in their stock and there is a clear difference in both the M competition logo on the dash and exhaust sound. So seemingly I have invested in a product I have not yet received!
I hope they resolve it, they are working on it now but without a clear path on what to do having not experienced it to date. I will update.
So far no matter what configuration I am in there are certainly no cracks, pops or bangs, the other competition car in the dealership has it all.
