When I was low this weekend and checked my manual (USA, May purchase) it said to use API - SH or higher, fully synthetic, 5-30 or 40. It also said to call your dealership or BMW NA for assistance if you couldn't get to a dealer. Well, it was Sunday so no dealer. BMW NA was closed as well. I punched in for Roadside assistance and the lady read me the manual over the phone
She even told me the phone number to call.
