I am sure your calculations are just fine - they do this on purpose, because the profit margins are so much better on an M3/4, they can raise the residuals and lower the MF to a point where it's cheaper to lease a car that is much more expensive, MSRP to MSRP.
Last year, I was getting out of my 981 because I needed more practicality (only have room for one car), so I was interested in an M2. But they were hard to come by, and had terrible lease rates...but my F80 ZCP was sitting there on the lot, and the dealer was trying to move them...so they took it down almost to invoice and I got a good finance rate, and I ended up in the M3 instead.
If you want an M2/M2C, you have to really want one, and in most cases, you are going to have to buy it in order for the finances to make sense. At least that seems to be the typical path for most of the folks on here.
