Rear drivers side of the car clearly has impact damage that wasn't caused from hitting the telephone poll...so another car hitting him there is a plausible story. If you scroll through all the pics, the passenger side of the car doesn't have damage (other than front quarter panel from poll impact)...which is what I'd expect.
