For some reason i doubt the gauges are actually measuring power being put out by the engine. I would guess its just a pre programmed feature to show a specific number based on several factors like what gear you are in and throttle input.
Never really noticed my gauges since i rarely have it on that screen. I will try to test it out one day. The best way to test this is while merging on to the highway where you need to have the gas pedal pinned to the floor for a good amount of time.
