I have the performance intake and trust me the difference was worth it. It's not a significant HP gain, but that's not what it's about. The real gain is the more robust torque curve. You simply feel the power across a wider range of the RPM band.
Prior to the intake, I could only feel the pull from around 2500 - maybe 5000. After the performance intake, I feel the torque pull well after 5000 rpm. I did my first autocross a few weeks ago and ran the entire course in 2nd. The power was always there when it was needed.
If you're just looking for sound though, you probably should look for something else.
