In the manual it is written that as long as the oil has the LL-04 specifiation it is allowed to use/add:

0W-30, 5W-30, 0W-40 or 5W-40

Funny enough my dealer does not think the same... it must be LL-04 0W-30 or I'll lose my warranty!

The oil reaches temperatures around 120 °C -> 248 fahrenheit

Thus a -40 would be better imho and give me peace of mind.

Neither BMW Switzerland nor BMW M GmbH in Germany were able to answer my question why I am not allowed to use a LL04 5W-40 and why I'll lose warranty if I would do so.
