For MOST people, aftermarket vented rotors are all thats needed. The majority of people's cars will never see such track temperatures, and as already states it is mostly an aesthetic mod for street cars.
As for for the performance aspect, I would take Slotted rotors over drilled any day, drilled rotors have been prone to warp and stress crack more over slotted; and yes these type rotors do wear out pads a lot faster.
