I've often seen groups of BWM's in disguise coming up the 405 from Orange County up into that part of LA (which is my commute). Saw a nice M5 about a month ago- they were traveling in pairs with other models, some with heavy body cladding which were different BMW models.
They seem to be on the freeway just after commuting hours- 10am or so. I've seen several manufactures testing their cars on this route, particularly when the weather is odd- raining, really cold or hot, etc...
