has been suggested that on my E88 120D msport convertible running standard msport suspension with no arch mods etc that I will get away with a 225/40 front and a 225/40 rear, was hoping to be able to fit a 245/35 on the rear but just not sure if there would be enough room with the 245 ?

Same deal, depends if you are lowered. If not, it will probably fit.
