Asking for a friend what are people's opinions of dpf removal?

The remap place where I went, he told me the majority of his work is people having the dpf removed and deleted, and that they spend a lot of time welding it in a concealed way, whereby none have ever been picked as altered by main dealers or mot centres and the emissions always pass. Although he said that's not future proof as they may change how they measure emissions in the future altho given the recent mot over haul I can't see another change happening for some time

The benefits he said being better economy, less stress on the engine, very slight increase in bhp, and a nicer sounding exhaust.

Isn't the dpf the thing that masks all the black smoke you sometimes see coming out of vans when they pull away. And obviously it's illegal, but at the same time it's likely to eventually break for city drivers, costing thousands.

What are people's thoughts
