I have the iPhone 6 running 8.1 and I use the Y cable in my center armrest and haven't noticed this. I usually put my iPhone on shuffle.
Right now I am currently using my iPod nano in the center armrest with the Y cable and it is not on shuffle at all. I can select my playlists but not shuffle the songs.
