The 2018-2019 M5 would shift out of 1st gear early if it couldn't get traction? (not sure if that is the exact reason) It would cause a dip in boost though and you would enter second down on power
Ever since my last update at the dealer my car ('19 comp) no longer short shifts in 1st when launching and my 1/4 mile times are very consistent. It will immediately shift out of second into 3rd if you are spinning too much now though.
So it does seem like they are updating things from time to time
The 2020+ m5 and m8 have a slightly different transmission which never seemed to have the above issue
Evolve also has a TCU tune that seems to fix this issue if you already tuned
