BMW Genius seemed to agree the cameras were only active for road imperfections in Adaptive mode. However, he admitted there were many things about the car he did not know.
Personally, I do not notice a huge amount of mitigation of potholes or speed bumps, at least not compared to videos I have seen of the S-Class's similar feature.
I am not yet 100% convinced one way or the other, since some of the technical documentation posted in another thread might suggest the camera is active the whole time.
I'm thinking of placing a call to the BMW Genius hotline to see if they can sort it out for me.
