If you think of cover? then realize when its wet after a rainy night you have to find a place to put it that morning, so it can at least dry out. Carrying one of those things around wet and dirty is small pain.

Putting it into the boot wet is a no-no, as well as a duty dirty one.
Best keep it well waxed, bird-doo free, and gently, ever so gently washed properly on regular basis. Save the cover for an extended trip away perhaps when the car needs protection while gone. IMHO
