I doubt it affects the quality or performance of the speakers or amp much unless you have the music cranked up to near the limits of what it can do, which isn't realistic anyway. But any unnecessary background noise affects what you hear when you're listening to music, for obvious reasons. So if you're asking does it affect the music... technically, probably not, but generally, yes, if that makes any sense. I have mine turned off. Makes it a little more pleasant.
