I would never, ever use one of those.
Basically, as your oil does all that mileage, crud that goes into the oil settles into the sump (think of the sump like a bilge tank on a boat). Then, when you take out the drain plug at the bottom of the sump, you empty that bilge tank.

If you use one of those pumps, all that crud stays in the sump.

There is a phrase that comes to mind : penny wise, pound foolish.
pretty sure he just needs to take out the 1.5 extra oil he chucked in, as the oil has just been changed this would be a perfect tool for the job
