My suggestion is joining HPDE events. The certified instructors will show you around and eventually let you out on your own. A typical day is about $250 which includes 4 sessions of 15 - 20 minutes each. Additionally, your friend with the E92 M3 should maybe upgrade the brake fluid to avoid brake fading.
