My parents bought me a brand new base Nissan Sentra when I was 16. I begged for an Acura GS or GS-R or Sentra SE-R. Was shamefully turned down. Plus they bought it burgundy red. White was too "dirty" and black was too "dangerous" at night.

I still did 80mph on a 45mph zone nearly every day. Teens will be teens. I'd probably do an old BMW just to make sure it's as safe for them as possible. You can pick up an E90 325 for a decent price.
