You aren't wrong but at the same time he's asking between purchasing and leasing the car. Even if neither is logical, one is still a better option than the other depending on circumstances.

Back on topic, if you're going to have it for 2-3 years lease. If you're going to hold it for longer then buy a CPO/used one. They depreciate too hard to justify a new purchase.
