I actually did have an issue with the auxiliary radiator getting damaged. It was when I had an m550 (which has a plastic honey comb grill whereas the f90 is pretty much exposed).
In my case a pebble or something hit the vertical cooling tubes and resulted in a messy coolant leak. Had to get the aux radiator replaced.
Even with that experience I'm not worried about the same thing happening on my m5… chalked it up to random bad luck. Could it happen- obviously yes… my guess is that the odds are slim, though.
