In their words, it was feeling a bit outdated. The facelift refreshes the model, but it doesn't do wonders for it. Well regardless of who would come ahead in a comparison, the new A4 is I would say significantly revised. Although the interior is nearly identical, the engines are new or very much revised and so are the handling components.
Audis in general tend to have a bit of a different character than BMW's it seems and it doesn't look like that will change with this new A4. Not quite the athlete the BMW is but perhaps in some people's opinions, a better looking one.
