Ever since I spent YEARS finding the PERFECT oil for the GT-R under track day conditions, and discovered that basically after eons of research and oil analyses - I was just barely beating the recommended Mobil-1 0W-40 from the factory. I have followed OEM recommendations for oil ever since. You're perfectly safe getting the stock oil unless you've modified the engine a lot. It just is the engineers have done a good job from the factory.

I would use bmw oil if they didn't upcharge the effing hell out of it like everything else. Makes no sense. BMW branded coils for my N63TU were $50 more than the exact same ones from BOSCH that weren't sold through BMW...just dumb.

I used to live and die by Mobil 1 0w-40 on my amg. Now i use LiquiMoly 5w-30 and 0w-30 on both X5 and M5 (in between dealer changes).
