M5 and M8 don't even have the same seats.
Yes, they have engineers at ZF in charge to engineer specific transmission ratios and materials for every specific model.
Also BMW have to justify premium price over M5.
Also my personal opinion, M8 is better looking car than M5.
Practicality doesn't make car better looking.
