But I just followed the video I found online and did not try removing the downpipes with the plate in place.

Yep. Once I got under it this morning I went ahead and took it off. Someone had worked on the car before and broke bolt heads off in several locations so that was nice to find. Also had to use the big brain to get out those 2 nuts that were a pain in the ass.
