The BMW branded paint is Sikkens which gets re-labeled as BMW Color System. BMW Certified shops were required to carry Color System paints when I was a certified shop (1999-2011 before leaving BMW). I am not sure how much the program has changed since then.
Major paint brands will all carry a lifetime guarantee BUT just like anything there is the opportunity for human error. There are no car manufacturers that sell pre-mixed paint codes. What happens is just like Home Depot, you get 50 different tints to mix your own colors. There are millions of combinations to mix up for all the different vehicle makes.
