I don't think this is your issue, but I did figure out on my iPhone that if your song is stored in "the cloud" and not on the phone, you can select the song, but it won't play it. (Stuck on 0:00 just like your problem)
I haven't tried hitting play on the phone though because I just leave it closed up in the armrest compartment.
