IMO the metallic version of the color would have been much better than frozen for the 1st editions. But like he said at the end, if they dont follow trends, they create them..

I think prefer the Frozen Dark Silver color as the first edition color. The red looks pretty gross.

I worked very hard to convince BMW to offer individual paint colors. And the interior followed, just like how they build the Rolls-Royces. I'm surprise it took so damn long. But the up charges are way steep. I can understand that regarding the interior, but I don't understand why there's a $5,500+ up charge just for the paint color.

As in the fashion industry, it's mostly all women picking the color swatches which are ALWAYS trendy.

Unfortunately as of late it seems that most of their colors resembles metallic nail polish that they choose.

Look no further than Porsche. Their custom colors start at $5,500 (cayman) with special colors starting $2,580. take a look at the 911 charges for paint.

IMO the worst part of the F90 is color, both interior and exterior, especially compared to F80/82.

It's not cheap filling new paint loads on a production line. Especially if you're only painting a few hundred when the other colors the series is sporting are 85% of overall production.

$2000 I feel is worth it, but no more.

Then I feel the paint should just be standard color options. That would make it easier and make customers more happy. It would also sent BMW apart if they had this offered in their standard color palette instead of it being such an over priced option, especially when people don't hold onto their cars as long as they used to.

Aa... what colors?
BMW has white, black, blue, red, silver and mineral grey. You can read them from 1000 miles away.
Did I miss something?

while i do agree with you, unfortunately the business model works. They are pushing it down to the 3er now. just look at all the individual m3/m4s that are close to 100k. People complain about the upcharge but still open their wallet. If the take rate wasnt good, BMW would switch it up. They also only offer standard colors in easier to paint colors that they can paint 100 cars at once. Like someone previously stated, changing colors in the production line takes time. Its not like walking up to the self serve soda machine at Moes.

Boring series. Does anyone care?

Whatever happened to Munich's engineering and legendary suspension design? Motors like the S54 / S65 / S85? Steering feedback? Driving dynamics? Attributes like these built the brand into relevance.

Not paint colors.

Sheesh, BMW today fancies themselves as competition for Liz Claiborne or Ralph Lauren.
