Listen, I get peoples' complaints — I was just pointing out that if recent information is to be believed, it won't be 4WD only. |

I, for one, am glad BMW is giving the F90 a "RWD mode" and understand the reasons for the implementation of AWD (even if I don't agree with it). Lack of DCT/manual on the other hand...

So this is the first time I've seen BMW confirm the new M5 will be equipped with xDrive.

I was just about to post this.
This makes it official. Next M5 getting AWD and will have at least 600hp and 516lbs/ft of torque and will weigh less than the F10 M5, but by how much still uncertain.

Regardless of the spec, one thing is for sure...it'll be quite the performer.

Feedback
After reading all the comments, looking at the pics and videos, first thoughts:
. love my F10 2WD but not being able to use all the power even with the slightest rain can be frustrating not to mention more slippery conditions including snow (even with good snow tires) . therefore this positive approach to 4WD makes it interesting . seats and interior look more M specific and very nice . ZF may not be DCT but seems to be efficiently integrated drivetrain and usual debate DCT/ZF/manual is down to your own preference . combination of luxury and performance spectrum still good On the other hand... . same engine ! Emissions and fuel consumption are not really better ... although upgraded this is is not particularly exciting and let's not talk about the sound: why Mr M can we not have in iDrive the ability to switch ASD -off- OR EVEN BETTER WITH A NOSTALGIA MODE AND ALL PREVIOUS M5 SOUNDS PUMPED IN THE CABIN You would make a lot of M Fans happy !!! . hybrid: i8 is a wonder of sporty integration and latest Porsche Panamera Turbo offers this (although with a very heavy weight): why not take this step and more carbon / lightweight approach ? This puts the current M5 a generation behind already . rear caliper ? seriously ? attention to detail provides an overall perception which can be a pain when spending so much money on such a car... . sales and marketing value proposition: if you offer such a car, M Division should already offer as an integrated overall experience some trackdays to explore the car's boundaries: we cannot fully enjoy this on an open road where there are more and more limitations . but the key is emotion: where is it ? Dear Timo Glock: I hope it was your concentration of driving on the track and being a slick professional which held back the giggles, laughters, wows, etc... Do we need extra horsepower ? even more efficiency ? M Drive with top speed of 315 km/h versus 305 now ? more this and that ? for what ? Even if I drive slowly I want to experience a firework of sensations which tell me an M car is special... I can only hope this new model will deliver on this front. |
