2018 BMW M5 F90 vs E63 S AMG by review Automobile Magazine
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com The latest E63 S is a very fine piece of kit, but in certain areas it is not quite as well-honed as the new M5. Take the steering, for example. The M5’s variable-effort rack operates with commendable precision and response. Steering angle and steering effort work in total harmony, even when you start changing through Comfort, Sport, and Sport Plus modes. The E63’s steering feels meaty and switched-on, but the self-centering force is somewhat exaggerated, and it takes a more conscious effort to dial in lock. Wind on more, and the feedback starts to blur just a touch. In a nutshell, the AMG engineers, the software specialists, and the suppliers came up with a 110 percent solution that is, in certain situations, too clever for its own good. The steering of the M5 is more linear, and its response has more depth. Advantage: BMW, but not by much." Full article: http://www.automobilemag.com/news/20...titans-part-4/ |

I will agree that AMG was outdone this time around. Being fair - the F10 was outdone by the previous AMG E63S - so it keeps coming around; but the fact the "base" F90 M5 is quicker and faster than the new E63S is actually pretty astounding. I see a quick power bump for the E63S, whether AMG announces it or not lol. As the above poster stated - the Comp package isn't even out yet - that will become embarrassing to MB.

I have a 2018 E63s and have an HEA M5 being held hostage at port. I cannot wait to get the M5 and compare the two.
I will say the sound the E63 makes is a drug... the only thing that worries me about the M5 is the exhaust note and that the styling is more subdued. |

Gotta beat E63s' 7:45 at Nordschleife first.

The E63s styling is way wider, lower, just a much more aggressive car than the M5 in my opinion. Even the AMG sport seats give the car a different feel than a regular sedan. The M5 is more a luxury Suoer sedan. |

Good stuff. Can't wait to see what real owners report when taking to the F90 to an actual scale. The article states only 33lbs dropped, I tend to believe this figure more than what other journalists have reported as being much more weight loss. Not sure what to say about that, but I will say that if you swap the sunroof out of the F10 M5 with an aftermarket Carbon Roof, you will drop 66lbs from the vehicle. Wish M would've given the F90 Carbon Core at least, to really lighten the chassis up. I suspect that if the next gen G90 M5 really does go hybrid, then it could be even heavier still with that added battery pack. Other than weight, it seems to me that the new E63S and F90 M5 are closer than ever in performance.

I think it is inevitable that the 2024 E63 and M5 would at least have a mild hybrid system, if not a full plug-in hybrid, because of ever tightening emissions and CAFE standards. Mercedes is already doing this with their AMG 53 line (20+hp starter that can double as a electric motor for coasting, etc...), and the top-end AMG 73 line is rumored to have a 700+ hp hybrid monster of a drive train. The top-end Porsche Panamera (Turbo S) is now a hybrid as well. |

Your views are certainly not objective, just check the dimensions in the artcle... way wider so you feel

Agreed. The e63s rear is not aggressive at all and the front looks like a C. The fact that you have to upgrade to a sport seat basically tell you the general target of that car. I guess look can be very subjective.

The M5 is beautiful as well but when I saw it at the LA auto show there was not much styling differences between an M5 and a M550. Its just more discreet of a car. |

Agreed. Not a fan of the new A7 in the slightest. In fact, if you look closely on the base A6/A7 models the exhausts are fake! Not a good look imo. I disagree. The current gens look great. The RS7 sits lower than the M5 and doesn't feel as bulky as my F10 M5. The new M5 styling is a huge turnoff for me though because it's bland and virtually indistinguishable from a G30 with msport. I hope they fix it with the LCI refresh. |

Has anyone been able to drive the new M5? I have both an M5 and an E63s on order but I plan to only take delivery of one and I'm struggling greatly with the decision. Man, this is a lot harder decision to make than I thought it would be. I haven't driven the M5 but I have driven the E63s. I currently own an M550i so I'm assuming driving the M5 won't be too drastically different.
