In BMW's opinion, yes it will. All the press coverage is saying something to the effect of "the new xDrive M5 is still a real M5 in RWD mode..." so yeah, if folks are worried about not having a true RWD experience stuff like this could help.

Would also be willing to bet this new xDrive M will not just stay with the 5...

I want to see things that are real world applicable, i.e. handling, power, fun to drive, talk about how you can't fee the 4,000+ pounds, how it's an executive sedan all your friends will envy, how it's 2 cars in one, etc. etc.
you must love those commercials where they have the idiot not paying attention while driving, then the car keeps them from killing someone.

Love BMW. Highly likely to get a 2020 M5 to replace my X5M. But, I just don't get this or at least I don't see the appeal.

No issue with them generating some press though.

they are afraid of losing buyers after using 4x4 on a niche car like the m5. therefore, they are pushing this drifting commercials to make people lose the fear of losing the RWD thrill on the new m5.

Yeah great, mission accomplished. Even though majority of folks buying an m5 don't even know what drifting is! Lol

Now BMW......go figure out how to make a window that doesn't streak and a hpfp/lpfp or a water pump that doesn't fail at 20k miles! Haven't solved that in 10 years! Lol

As I mentioned in the other thread, practicing drifting teaches car control skills, applicable in the real world.

For sure the stunt is for marketing but when every single car commercial shows them drifting (think Camry, Nissan Rogue, etc) this is not out of place today at all.
