Why would they make a 6MT again when they specifically stopped making it due to not enough people buying it.
With the F10, there was something like 1 MT buyer per 50 DCT buyers. The one thing I also find funny is every car that releases, people always ask for 6MT but cannot afford the car so what's the point? "Would be better if it came with manual instead" "Auto is boring" "Save the manuals" It's a 100k+ car, barely anyone gives a shit about manuals. Everyone also knows the only reason why 90% of Porsche owners buy manual 911s is to resell it later. Grow up and adapt to technology. People who keep asking for manuals and no awd are keeping BMW behind, because right now, audi and mercedes are making cars much better than BMW. M3 isn't what it used to be and is no longer the benchmark.

I guess until I "grow up" I'll be having a blast with my fantastic M3 in all 12 months. Sorry to everyone for keeping BMW "behind the times". |

But it is correct that demand for large cars with manuals is and always has been comically small. The E38 had a manual option, but nearly no one took it. Now that the 5er is that size, it makes sense that no one wants one either. But the asinine poor people are the only ones that want manuals bs is simply wrong. |

It is to make sure M's prime who still understands that 'M X drive' has not taken away the joy of driving the M5 but instead making it even better with the balance between fun and utmost performance.

While it was still horribly done, I will give them the benefit of the doubt and assume this was intended specifically for a previews/ads slot in the new Star Wars movie. Otherwise, there is just no excuse...

Look at the 911R, sold in manual, sold out and people are now reselling for huge markup. Mostly none of those cars will ever be driven correctly, it's mostly used as an investment nowadays. I'm sure there's a select few that drive theirs, and those who love manuals and don't garage queen their cars but let's face it. The want of the many outnumber the needs of the few. There are alot more people buying auto nowadays vs 6MT. You can tell by seeing how BMW is releasing their limited edition cars (CS, GTS and M340i) in auto only. If they knew they would make money on the manuals, it would easily be made to sell the other half of the numbers in manual. I got no beef with the guys who drive manual now, but just don't expect it to stay around too long. Sooner or later BMW will drop it like Audi and Mercedes did. Though I believe ford and chevrolet is keeping it alive with their GT350 and camaros.

I'm confused one minute people are saying ///M is all watered down and now nothing but marketing, next minute lots of people are saying that they need to improve their marketing... crikey.
It's all marketing, that's how successful companies convince you to buy crazy expensive things that you can drive and get stuck in the same traffic jam that you did yesterday. It is beautiful, granted, and I wish I was able to let myself spend the money on one, but I can't. I guess that answers it. They need to market harder! |

I don't really see the point of an F10 or F90 with a true manual gearbox. By point, I mean financially. As others pointed out, if only 1 in 50 cars is purchased with a manual gearbox, it doesn't make sense to still be offered. In this world, we cater to the majority, especially when there is financial interest.
Also, in my opinion, the F10 and F90 are way too boring to be manual. It's a heavy, large, comfortable FAMILY car that I would give to my wife to go to the mall in. The whole point is to easily go fast in these cars. Smash the gas pedal and you have 100% grip and will reach 60mph in no time, as well as comfortably without much drama, having to smash gears in. If you're purchasing a manual M5 and are a family man, there's pretty much no chance that your wife will ever drive the car. We now go from 1 in 50 to 1 in 1000 for women who will want a manual car and know how to drive one. The last BMW's I owned that were truly manual were the E60 M5 and E92 M3. I did feel a bit awkward shifting quickly with the M5, because again, it was a large comfortable saloon, but I chose the manual gearbox for many other reasons with that car that no longer make sense for the F10 / F90. PS. This is coming from a true purist that owns a bare to the bones 5 speed manual with no ABS and no traction control.

The follow up ad is M-Mazing which was filmed at the Performance Center East last month. It involves a endurance world record.
