However, I will say, that it's simply a fan that is moving air. if the air it is moving has been "cooled" IE the air coming out of the vents under the seats or dashboard when AC is on, and it sucks up that cooled air from the air conditioning and pushes it though the seats... that would kinda mean that at least the air supply the fans are using is cooled which in turn basically means the seats are meant to be cooled with ventilation fans moving cooled OR heated air. The heated part has active heating elements. The cooled does not. It's simply moving air. As did my Escalade. The air just moved better in those. Tomato ToMAAAto. |

Cool, so we got that sorted out apparently....
or.. I mean.... Ventilat.... Nevermind. But truly i'm very well aware there isn't a cooling element in the seats like an AC duct running to them. But they certainly utilize air that is in the car already, and that air may or may not be cooled, or heated. But at the end of the day what theyre called isnt relevant. The fact of the matter is they dont work well. at all. that was my point. |

I am sure none of us bought the car because of massage or ventilated seats… i find that as a plus because none of that makes me smile more than sport plus all, just go like there is no tomorrow. I bet no one got their M5 thinking “damn those are the best seats in the whole world”. If i want comfort i just go to sleep.
Sarcasm aside, I’m happy to have what i got, or else i would had bought a rolls royce. |

Good news is the seats are great, even though the ventilation and massage leave a lot to be desired in my opinion. And really besides the brakes making noise, thats really my only couple complaints with the car over all. I would not pay extra for BMWs ventilated, but if there was an upgrade available I would pay for that. living in Arizona the ventilated/cooled seats are a great bonus for me. For every 1 day I use the heated function, the cooling (ventilated) gets 20 days of use. LOL. |

Wifey loves the passenger seat massager. Just the other day she complained that someone monkeyed with the setting (removed one of the zones), and I spent a minute finding the right screen to reactivate it.
As for me, I use it on long drives. It's ok to break up the "bed sore" feeling from sitting in one spot for several hours. |

I think the use of the word massage is what gets the seats a bad review. They are incredibly comfortable when not turned on and I use the frequently any time my body feels fatigued. That could be on a short trip and is always the case on longer journeys. I only use the ventilation function once the cabin temp is below 75.

The M5 massage seats are an after thought in design and not worth the markup. I test drove an SQ8 which I didn't buy obviously. However, the massage seats in it are legit, the M5 not so much. Its really just bags of air inflating and deflating....

Had a sore back after 3 hours of yardwork. Spent 25 minutes in the car taking it to the car wash felt great the rest of the night!
Make sure you engage full massage mode via iDrive. Love it

My business partner purchased a new S580 three months after I bought my M5C. Both my girlfriend and I like my M5 seats better. She loves the message sets and I wound up getting her an X5 with them and she uses them constantly.

I use them almost daily as I drive a lot per day. They are good enough in that they get the job done, but they do not press hard enough in most modes….I know the S class massage function is more powerful. In the end, I don’t really want to be without massaging seats in the future…but the choices of performance cars/GT’s that have massage seats available is super slim.
Which bring me to my overall point. What car exists that is balls out fast, can fit 5 with luggage, AWD, handle, and have every luxury amenity such as first class tech with Level 2 autonomous driving, head’s up display, remote start, keyless smartphone access….etc. The car is so good, it’s almost stupid. I drove a new Porsche 911 GTS yesterday and it was very impressive. Much more sports car than GT, but to Porsche’s credit, you can outfit it with a lot of tech…except….you guessed it massage seats…. Now, that doesn’t really make the ultimate difference but I’ll tell you what does. Sheer power and value. Getting back in my M5C, the power difference was immediately noticeable in favor of the M5. Then let’s talk about value….to spec out a 911 GTS (which noticeably has less power) remotely close to an M5, it is $195,000. C’mon…. And I heard the arguments that the Porsche depreciate a lot less than any car, but what difference does it make if you’re paying a premium for that upfront?? I’m going to enjoy my M5, its tech, its power, its value, and yes it’s massage seats for awhile…. I’m good. |

I have em so I use it when I feel like. It does apply a little pressure and feels OK. Nothing great but I never expected anything great. So, happy with it! My wife and other passenger like it more.

I use them on occasion and find them better than the ones in the MB GLS450. Given that I live in New England, I use them more during cold weather periods, with both heated and ventilated seats engaged. I think it's a nice to have, and c'mon.. you can tell your 911 friends Ya, I'll still pass you comfortably while getting my ass massaged... that alone makes it worthwhile

I use mine because I have a bad back. Combined with the heat they are somewhat helpful, but they pale in comparison to the seats in my wife's '24 Navigator. Those things are absolutely amazing.
