Does the engine shut off to protect itself?

Got this message and then the engine just died this morning.

Any idea if the engine turns off to protect i itself in case there is loss of oil pressure? Or did the engine torpedo?

Seem like something punctured the oil inter cooler right past the bumper cover under the car.

Most likely the drop in pressure was measured by the DME and it shut down. Engine should be fine.

Sorry to hear man, I am planning to install a plate right underneath for additional protection.
Well worth the hassle.

I was going to suggest this, but it requires the engine to be cranking... Sorry

Best of luck to you!

There's L shaped tool that they use to do it, it's under the middle left of the car- apparently it's the same as the 7.

So how do they get it on the flat bed without putting the transmission in neutral?

Unless you drive it a long distance or high rpm after the pressure dropped, you’ll be fine. Synthetic provides a nice protective film barrier for a short period with loss of pressure.
