What's the point of pairing a M car with an automatic gearbox? If manual and DCT experience can't be offered in a M car, why not save the money and stay with a M550i, it's fast, quiet, comfortable, and numb perhaps. What a disgraceful decision by BMW. Anyways, for those who want one still, it your money and you are the boss. I'm pretty sure that I'm done with this brand.

Pretty sure the smg3 was designed hand in hand with the s85, manual was available a year later...Sorta an imperfect trans (too tall) but still three pedals

Are those wheels the new 20s or the standard 19s? Im also sad we will be losing the sexiness of the M6 GC in this generation..it looks so much better than the G30 still..imagine how a new one would've turned out.
Also..i have the feeling this M5 wont be able to dethrone the new panny ring time...but time will tell. |

It's a unique design that allows all the power to be completely passed to the rear axels, 100% of the time

While removing the DCT and making it standard with X-Drive it's nice to see BMW at least make everything fully customizable (rear wheel only with fully manual shift points).

I'm intrigued. I went from a M5 to a X5M because I need AWD + snow tires to get up my road and driveway. The 8 speed auto is not bad in the X5M and better at creeping than DCT. I really like a P button - the parking implementation with DCT (I had two M3's before) is just silly. Really silly in the X5M which is an auto. Even my 911 has PDK and has a park position.
I always felt that my F10 M5 was traction limited at all times. I'll check it out since there won't be X5M when my lease ends. |

I see a lot of negative comments from forum members about the 8 speed auto, but none has driven the car yet...

According to EVO, 2WD mode only with all the electronic nannies off... Very disappointing if it is the case for the production car...

Extract from the Car and Driver article:
It’s a week after the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon debuted, and it is still blowing up the internet. Its specs have already been tattooed on the faces of more than a few of Mopar’s faithful. But Dirk Hacker, vice president of engineering at BMW’s M division, hasn’t heard word one about America’s newest and most powerful muscle car. “How much power?” he asks. “840 horsepower.” He nods. “Does it have a manual transmission?” “Automatic only,” we say. “All-wheel drive?” “Nope, rear-wheel drive.” He takes another sip from his drink. “Maybe my son has heard of it,” he says with more than a hint of derision. “He likes American performance cars.” Frankly, this is a bit insulting and arrogant from a company official that has not made a supercar since the original M1. At least the Americans are not afraid to make exciting cars such as the Demon, but also proper supercars like the new ford GT, Corvette Z06 and others... Not to mention that company, FCA, owns the most prestigious brand of all, Ferrari.

And in 2WD mode there won't be any traction control and stability system!

I am asking everybody to stay civil in their debates, otherwise you will be moderated and, at worst, banned.
Thanks!
