BMW has something called innovation. They are looked up too for their products, racing etc. Tesla is a stupid tech brand that puts batteries in their cars WOW impressive they drive like shit look like shit and make 0 noise so what's the point of buying one over a M5 or e63s

Tesla is ahead of its time in terms of the technology they are using. However, personally I would not buy into electric technology just yet. Pretty soon your BMW M will be a hybrid and eventually fully electric.

Yup... And when BMW start making fully electric sports saloons they will be as popular as the ubiquitous 3 series is today, I have no doubt.
I'm not sure if more i models are the way to do it, but I'm sure the tension between regular models and the i-range will resolve in some way; hopefully the (very much just a) rumour of an all electric next gen i8 will show what BMW can do to answer the Tesla Roadster and other future electric sports cars.

Pleased to see it was a win for the M5 too.

M5 hands down the winner. Even the F10 M5 blew away a P100D overall. The quality, ride, handling, fit and finish as well as tech much better on the M5. Just no comparison even.

I have driven the top of the line Tesla and my takeaway was it felt very cheap next to the M5 in almost every way. Sure it might do a romp to 60 a tiny bit faster (maybe less on the F90) but the M5 just keeps pulling and can go all day long without going into limp mode.

I wanted to love the Tesla. I wanted to love it so much I would buy it. For $140k for the top model which didn't even compare to a loaded M5 for 120k there was no way to justify it. I walked away saying the $140k is a $75k car at best. If it was $75k I would have ordered one. Maybe even $80k. But at $140k can't pay that much when Mercedes, BMW, Audi quality, ride, handling, tech, etc is all so much better for so much less.

I sold my F10 M5 ahead of me ordering the new one shortly. I did test drive the new M5 and it is impressive as expected.

There’s nothing innovative when the vehicle still needs petroleum. Yeah, it’s so amazing by having exhaust notes pumped into your cabin, or having super bright lights. You sound ignorant. Both cars have there niche but let’s be real, there’s very little redeeming qualities about driving a 600HP 5000 pound luxo, faux sports sedan. I personally think Tesla’s look amazing. I’m not enamored by BMW’s weekly updates that are only put into place to up-sell me. The cars are outdated within 8 months.

Even Camry's and Accords have HUD now. To not have one in a $100k+ car in 2018 is an oversight.

No so fast. Tell that to Porsche about not having a HUD in a 100k car in '18.

They have cars 100K to 200k+. Guess how many have HUD? Give you a hint. It rhymes with Hero. That is right. Zero. Not a single porsche has HUD.

For the most part, pointless distractions used to woo the consumer. My iPhoneX is my navigation. I’ve used my F80s navigation maybe half-a-dozen times and my car is over 3 years old.

1000% disagree. HUD is best thing you can have. Sounds like you never experienced it. I've had HUD in all my cars for 5 years now. Once you have it and get used to it you cannot live without it. Any car I drive that doesn't have it I miss it and feel distracted constantly looking off the windshield to gather the data I want (speed, speed limit, tachometer, radio stations, blinker, etc).

Me and my wife both have literally not purchased cars where we loved everything about them but they were missing a HUD (hear that porsche? You lost a Cayenne sale).

To each their own. Enjoy your iPhone X and it's tiny screen Just not for me while I'm driving

If you really read my comment, you’d know the F80 M3 comes equipped with HUD. It’s a feature that’s necessary if you have it and not really necessary if you don’t. Regarding my mobile phone’s screen, through Bluetooth, you don’t have to look at it. It’s audible. Smh.

I prefer both audible and visual. My HUD's all have turn by turn in the HUD so I can see as well as hear.

Again I just have my opinion and you have yours. I won't buy a car without a HUD. It's a dealbreaker for me and my wife both. I have an iPhone X and a Google Pixel 2. Only time I ever use those for navigation is for Waze as a 2nd navigation tool (for traffic, police, etc).

But this side conversation is off topic. So back to the original. M5 blows away the Tesla!

The F80 has turn-by-turn as well. Lol the irony of this discussion is, BMW is slowly but surely going Tesla’s route using all electric anyway.

That projection is easily mitigated by producing more model 3 by ramping up
Production, or offering discounts on available models.

"Easily mitigated???!" Where have you been?

Elon Musk in panic. Model 3 build quality very poor:
