And people have their panties in a bunch that the M340 may be AWD only with no manual.

Release the brakes, the front wheels kick in, and the M5 pounds forward. In 2.8 seconds you’re at 60 mph and in 10.9 you’re whisked through the quarter-mile at 129 mph.
Basically, doing a brake stand before launch. C&D says that after a few runs it dials back the launch RPM, but I wonder how many times until the car goes in to limp mode.
To be fair, sir, neither is the P90D's launch exactly 'repeatable' for back to back 0-60 runs.

Was waiting for someone to bring up the P100D - which does 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. M5 obviously has it beat in ?driver? connection but if we?re talking numbers

Wait till those low to mid 4 second 0-60 times come out.... that'll all change.

Not sure it'll change . Manual drivers don't put all the emphasis on 0 -60 times

was dead set against getting the F90, but the journalism really has been overall very positive.

the test drive will have to blow me away to give up the manual F10, as "slow" as my car may be.

340 xdrive with the power kit is already putting down low to mid 4's

It's so sad how true this statement is. Aside from the the 1///M, which was put together using E90 M parts, and I suppose the M2, BMW has really flopped on every redesign since 2009 from a driving dynamics perspective.

Fair point.

AWD and increased power vs a regular 340i, sounds about right. Only difference between current 340i+ power kit vs upcoming M340i would be higher hp? Won?t be too far off performance wise....

Oops, you forgot about Tesla S P100D released last year with Ludicrous mode? Yeah, 2.28 seconds! Car and Drivers needs to check with Mototrend first:

I have a F10 M5 and a P100D, P100D will beat the new M5 in 0-60 anytime. To get 2.8 seconds basically the M5 needs perfect condition and launch, whereas P100D you just stump the pedal without never have to worry about what RPM or gear you are at, it just goes.

What M5 excels at is high speed acceleration, that the P100D cannot match. I'm impressed with the 129mph trap speed.

2.8s, though? Wow. And, is that how the new Launch Control works? Just hold both pedals and then release the brake when the streetlight turns green...?
Thank god they finally realized that if I'm sitting at 0mph with my foot on both pedals, I'm obviously trying to launch it and I want it to launch as quickly as it possibly can. Why should I have to press a bunch of buttons to tell the car to get ready for a launch? Just do it.

I recall that is with a 1-foot rollout right? From a standing start that is more like 2.5 to 2.6.

Came for this. Was not disappointed.

You sure? With the new M5 being AWD and launch control, I'm pretty sure the 2.5 secs will be pretty consistent until the gas runs out. The P100D will last you until the battery is zapped and left you stranded lol

P100D 0-60 is 2.5. Comparing the NEW M5 to a now defunct P90D is nice but not current.

Yes I am sure, by the time you finish engaging the launch control in a street race the Tesla is waiting for you at the next light.

Like I said above, I have both the F10 M5 and P100D so I know each's strengths and weaknesses are, I am simply saying when it comes to P100D, it's idiot proof, anyone can launch it like a pro.

Everyobody forgets that P90 is only the same to 60mph. Later M5 is faster. Still DONT COMPARE AN ELECTRIC CAR TO A GASOLINE CAR.

But let me put it this way. Since they're gonna be future M hybrid models imagine what that M5 F90 would do with a hybrid powertrain giving even more extreme responsive torque.

And as far as the M5 F90 normal tuning like ecu, exhaust, intakes, downpipes and upgraded turbo's will make it a killer. All in all the Quattro killer is here. Check out the russian X5M 1200 ps. Killer and now they will do that do the M5.

I sold my P90D for my F90 M5...I love electric, but the M5 was just that appealing to me. Tesla has the off the line performance, but it's not nearly as awesome when you stomp on it at 60+. Also the interior sucked. No hud. No carplay. No ventilated seats.

The M5 is $50k cheaper (my build) with just as good/better performance, way way way better interior, and better looks - Tesla needs a refresh of the backend asap (as well as interior refresh)
