Oldest tire "wives'" tale in the book. Patched tires don't explode when they fail. They just go flat, just like if you had a screw or nail in your tire and it came out at high speed. The same glue they use on the bead of your tire rim, is used on the patch which is force into the inner tire surface by air pressure . There is nothing to blow up or explode.
